Some things are worth waiting for, and our new Rugby Distillery Spiced Rum is certainly one of them!
When Richard first hatched his plan to open an artisan distillery back in November 2020, he had a particular spirit in mind. It wasn’t gin. It was rum. In January 2021, Richard and Emma took on a barn filled with farming equipment and set about transforming it into what would become Rugby Distillery. There was plenty of work ahead, but the vision was beginning to take shape.
Rum had always been part of Richard’s original plan, but as anyone in the distilling world will tell you, creating a great rum takes time, patience and a rather different approach to producing gin. Gin offered a more practical starting point, allowing our team to develop their craft, experiment with flavours and establish Rugby Distillery while keeping Richard’s longer-term ambition firmly in sight.
By August 2021, just seven months after taking on the barn, Rugby Distillery had sold its very first bottle.
And what a journey it’s been!
From our original 1823 Dry Gin to our growing collection of flavoured and speciality gins, Rugby Distillery has come a long way since those early days.
But Richard never forgot about the rum.
Now, after plenty of planning, experimenting and perfecting, we’re delighted to say that his original ambition has finally become a reality.
Introducing Rugby Distillery Spiced Rum!
A Delicious Blend of Warming Spices
Our new Spiced Rum is rich, smooth and wonderfully warming, bringing together a carefully balanced blend of eight aromatic ingredients.
Vanilla and cinnamon provide a lovely smooth warmth, while allspice, nutmeg and cloves add richness and depth. Orange peel brings a refreshing citrus lift, complemented by ginger and a subtle hint of black peppercorns.
The result is a beautifully aromatic spiced rum that’s full of character, with layers of flavour to discover in every sip.
At 37.5% ABV, it’s wonderfully versatile, whether you prefer your rum served simply over ice, with a premium mixer or as the star of a delicious cocktail.
